“A ‘copy-cat’ recipe that worth following, giving you healthier new year goodies!”
Obviously I did not create this recipe. I am not the first few to make this snack, too. I was just following the ‘trend’, if you already are making it or have done it many time. For Chinese Lunar New Year celebration, for your own consumption or as gift during new year visits. It’s surely healthier (it’s air-fried) for you and your wallet! It’s easy, too!
Yields 1 tub Ingredients 1 packet of crab (flavored) sticks, 250g Pinch of sugar Drizzle of oil
This is my mashed potato in super smooth consistency. The secret? No secret… Simply blend the potato instead of just smashing it with fork. :)
As for my peppery sauce, it was simple to cook, and flavorsome to taste, making the mashed potato side a hit on our New Year Eve dinner feast. We all loved it a lot. And since I used only milk to cook the gravy, it might not as smooth texture as using heavy cream. Hence, the alternative is to use chicken stock plus heavy cream, instead of milk ya. But for me, I’ll stick to this leaner recipe for now. :)

I used air fry method since this was cooked mainly for my little boy. It was not oily, and less heaty, to my belief.
My boy loves it, despite the turmeric spice flavor, which he didn’t mind. I added turmeric powder, not only for liking its bright yellowish colour, I believed the health benefit of having some of these spices in our diet. It’s optimal though, if you do not like this mild Indian spice flavor.
This dish was cooked last minute as an add-on side dish to my lesser-than-usual amount of dinner dishes this evening. Hence, I could only cooked with what I had in my refrigerator and things could be found in the kitchen pantry.
Nothing fanciful. It was just a very simple meat balls dish. To make it even easier, I air fried the meat balls instead of frying it on pan. Less oil and healthier, of course. Air frying these meat balls simply makes my job much quicker and simpler.

For those who aren’t staying in Singapore, Malaysia or nearby countries, you might not know what is Kaya jam. Kaya, is a sweet & creamy coconut spread made from coconut milk, eggs and sweetened with sugar. It is usually served on toast with butter slice as a great breakfast or tea time snack. It is also great as filling in bao (steamed bun) and cakes. Some Kaya will be flavored with Pandan juice or essence, but I still preferred the traditional brown color type, with just a hint of Pandan flavor instead of making it the strong flavor and in green. It’s just personal personal choice with no special reason.

Making own burger bread was to have more simple and healthy burger meal at home. It was simple. My home-baked burger buns were more crisped at the crust, not as soft as the store-bought, since no softener or enhancer added. Taste more bland, but healthier, since no flavoring added.
