Healthy Cactus Soup with Chicken (仙人掌煲鸡汤)

“Cactus soup. Sounds weird as food? Not true, it’s surprising great as food, especially to be cooked in soup, trust me.”

Came across many savory dishes on Aloe Vera and loved it. When come to Cactus, it gave an impression of an over-whelming greenish taste, but it is not true! After reading some write-ups on the benefits of taking cactus, I decided to give it s try. And guess what, it is really great to have in the soup!

Not sure since when, many articles claimed that cactus has become a popular dish in many occasions since it is easy to cook. Its stem can be eaten chilled with some additions of salad dressing. It can be fried or stewed, besides cooking in the soup. But, today, I am going to focus just on soup cooking because the soup tastes a real good! More

My Lo-Hey Ceremonies in the Year of 2011!

“After so many Lo-Hei ceremony, we are now becoming more and more prosperous with good fortune luck!”

Chinese Lunar New Year has finally come to an end with happiness. This year, will be the most prosperous year for me as well as many who had tossing up the good to better luck with the SIN-MAL popular ritual, the symbolic Lo-Hey ceremony. Due to my current active social circles, many Lo-Hey sessions have been made at home and organized in and out of office, with colleagues, friends and family. I’ve taken the Lo-Hey for a total of 12 times out of 15 days of CNY as well as the pre & post CNY. Among the many different Yu Sheng dishes I have tasted this year, the best tasting one will be the Yu Sheng pack from Kwong Cheong Thye, and second best goes to New Moon brand Abalone Yu Sheng, for home dining purposes. As for restaurant Lo-Hey, I liked it from Peach Garden.

I loved eating Yu Sheng dish. I really did.. More

My first Scrumptious Homemade Yu Sheng Lo Hei of the Year 2010 from Kwong Cheong Thye

“Singapore’s century-old Soy bean products manufacturer, Kwong Cheong Thye, which sells not just the popular seasoning sauce and condiment, they offer one of the tastiest Yu Sheng packages, too!”

I know I will feel guilty if I don’t share this great condiment/ sauces shop with you for getting good Chinese New Year dry food goodness.

This shop was recommended and I was brought there by one of my colleagues recently, great for getting CNY food stuff. One of the most popular CNY goodies there has to be the pre-packed Yu Sheng ingredients, of course! More

Overnight Camping & Visit in Jurong Bird Park Singapore

“Sleeping with the Flamingos”

Hey! I told you that I went for a sleepover camp at Jurong Bird Park on one of the Fridays in December. Yes, pitching of tents for a night inside the park. However, don’t assume that it will surely an outdoor camping. Sad to say, it was not! We camped IN a air-conditioned function room by the flamingo lake. That’s the camping experience for our precious Singapore children! Wahaha..

Actually, I personally find it not a bad idea with an indoor camping as there will be no mosquito bite, need not to feel hot in the sleep.. All we had is cooling air in the tent in that ‘snory night’.. More

Japanese Curry Pork Chop Lunch Box

“Lunch Box Makes Easy”

Busy at work recently, and preferred lunching in most of the time. I had to prepare lunch box.

I bought a new nice navy blue (his favorite colour) triangle-shape microwavable lunch box which comes with a spork (spoon plus fork in one… Ribbons not included) from Robinson, for frequent use. Unique triangle shape, it presents an elegant outlook. More

Nutritious Lunch Idea, the Lunch Box Gourmet

“Bringing homemade lunch to work on regular basis benefited much on your time and pocket.”

Changing office location to town area was a hassle by far. It was a more hectic work as new, and for one who would be swearing for having to fight through a hubbub over peak lunch hour, I might end up skipping lunch or having just some fast food meals. Hence, I made effort to wake up earlier to make a lunch box was wise choice. So that the lunch crowd could be avoided and still enjoying a healthy and homey lunch box. Anyway, cooking is my favourite thing to do.

I had already prepared the ingredients the night before. Cut and washed the vegetables as well as marinated the pork chop, and then, stored them in the refrigerator. Woke up at 7am this morning, I quickly cooked rice. Then, cooked mixed vegetables and pan-fried pork chop. Filled the lunch container with rice and topped the dishes. Ok… My heart warming Pork Chop Paradise lunch box is ready to go! More

Iced Chrysanthemum and Ginseng Herbal Tea (洋参菊花茶)

“Warm aromatic Chrysanthemum tea to warm your hands and heart in the cold days, or a chilled glass to quench your thirst in the summer. Either way, this herbal tea is always the best drink to be enjoyed, anytime.”

Light, aromatic, and very simple, this herbal beverage makes a great accompaniment to any food, e.g. Chinese Dim Sum, stir fry, and even deep fry!

Its delicate floral aroma makes it easy to drink regularly. Chinese believes its benefits in reducing body heat as well as its contribution to clear vision. An addition of tiny ginseng root (洋参须) to Chrysanthemum tea not only doubles the cooling effect to our body system and many more nutritional values, it adds extra fragrance and flavor resulting in a herbal-inspired taste in the palate.
