This has to be one of my regular dishes during my dieting period. Cabbage, somewhat contains substances which aid in slimming, whilst glass noodle is flavorful, yet, counting lower in calorie as compared to other types of noodle.
Since I said my cooking was a dish meant to be incorporated into my dieting program, I have to adapt Grandma’s cooking into my own recipe, in a healthier way.

Just realized that I did not have my papaya snow fungus sweet soup recorded. I thought I did, but apparently only having the savory version as well as the adaption with winter melon. Well, this was a great time to showcase it as I boiled this nourishing goodness with Okinawa black sugar instead of rock sugar. It turned out to be even tastier and smoother mouthfeel. For sure, black sugar is healthier version of sugar than other kinds of sugar, especially for women, as it provides nutrients such as Iron, Calcium, Potassium and Magnesium. Plus, this sweet soup helps in nourishing the lungs as well as skin complexion. What’s more can I ask for?! :D

All the ingredients used in this soup recipe were truly nutritious. Packed with high content of nutrients, and they were delicious to taste, too.
Some nutritional facts:
Papaya, a fruit that contains not only high amount of antioxidant, but also an enzyme (papain) which helps digest protein. Snow fungus, nourishes your lungs and skin. Black-eyed beans as a kind of legumes. I did not need to highlight the rest of the familiar ingredients. Best thing, this super delicious soup was so flavourful with its natural sweetness from the papaya, we don’t need much of the seasoning here. A pinch of salt would be the limit to it.

I wasn’t too sure, or it was just me. I noticed that the cold & flu viruses and bacteria just wouldn’t go away, everywhere. Perhaps it was my low immunity, it was the hot weather, it was due to my constant late sleep… Son’s schoolmates were taking turn to fall sick all the time, too… Both my son and I were having a cold. For me, the symptoms of body aches, nasal congestion, runny nose and sore throat were noticeable before taking the hot lemon coke (cola). I hadn’t thought of having it until 2 days later. As soon as I did, I felt an instant relief of these symptoms in me. Yes, it soothed my throat and chest as well as feeling less stuffy of my nose. It even felt dry for quite a while. It worked for me. :)
This is the same steamed fish you always get to taste when attending wedding Chinese banquet dinner. Some called it Hong Kong Style, whilst others called this steamed in light soy sauce… There were even more names in Chinese menus.. Whatever name to be called as desired, I knew this would be so well liked by anyone, both the adults and children. :)
Why steamed fish for festival?
Sure thing, this is a festive dish. That must be the reason why this was seen so often in the Chinese festive occasions. Of course, you wouldn’t omit those auspicious garnishing and sides in the plate, too.. Let me explain.

My son loves the Chinese yellow noodle (Chinese alkaline noodle), usually being prepared in soup as fish balls noodle soup selling at most of the hawker centers, food courts and coffee shops in Singapore and other parts of Asia.
This thin yellow noodle would also commonly be cooked in fried noodle (Chinese Chow Mien) or the Mee Goreng (Indian fried noodle) style which easily found selling outside. Having that said, these fried noodles selling at the stores are usually over seasoned or spicy.
