Today’s weekday, and no homecook dinner for the family tonight. Why? I had a company Barbeque party this evening. I am one of the four Welfare Committee Members of my company. So, no doubt, I have had a busy night, in fact, for the past 2 – 3 nights, for preparations. One of the preparations – FOOD. Each of us (the women committee) prepared 1 – 2 types fo raw food. The rest of the food, ordered from wholesale delivery.
I, prepared prawns and pork chops, the night before.read more
“Back-to-basic fried rice to pair with simple pan-fried pork chop”
As usual, express (yet balanced diet) home-cooked dinner for our weekday. I planned tonight’s dinner since last evening. Saw the frozen pork chops and mixed peas in the freezer before I cooked dinner last evening, I knew what will be my tomorrow’s dinner then! I cooked extra rice for that night, ready to reserve the extras in the freezer overnight. What else? Fried rice with pork chop meal is the best option for tonight’s dinner!read more
“Homemade Prawn Noodle Soup that you can’t resist”
1 dish meal is always the easiest cooking as weekday dinner. It could be prepared in 1 hour time, less dishes to wash after meal, and All-in-One balance diet.
I brought medium-sized prawns from the market on Sunday morning (since I do not have time to go market on Monday morning). Prawns have to be fresh since the whole prawn including shell will be used. I kept it in the freezer overnight, and took it out and stored at the defrost compartment this morning. All other ingredients were also in the refrigerator.read more
Yesterday was Chinese Lunar Fifteenth. We tried to keep Lunar First and Fifteenth of the month as vegetarian days.
Since I had broccoli in the refrigerator, I just bought a packet of vegetarian mock abalone steak from the vegetarian shop along the way home from work. I remembered first seeing this mock abalone at a grocery store (which also sells vegetarian products) in Bishan wet market. Unlike those canned fried-gluten mock abalone and the one made of oyster mushrooms, this vacuum-packed vegetarian abalone steak caught my eyes by its outlook, resembling the actual seafood. It was well recommended by the seller.read more
“Its sweetness and ‘lemon grassy’ flavour are just soooo yummy”
I tried this new creation for dinner last evening. Using of the tenderloin part, and I sliced the pork into very thin and small (about 1 cm thick, half the palm-size) pieces as my first trial, to allow quicker cooking. It really was, and so, with just about 25min of baking time, your dish would be up to serve.
However, I reckoned thicker slices for baking or grilling method, if possible. Instead of 1cm thickness, make it 2cm. Reason being, thicker slice tastes more “meaty” and juicier. Yes, my first trial told me. :)read more
