Wine & Dessert in Club Med, Bintan Island

“Dessert & Wine @ Club Med, Bintan Ria”

1)Green Tea & Macadamia Nuts Cake. This luscious cake was so delicious with its pleasant sweet taste and fun’nutty’ texture in between. Its mild green tea flavour elevated the overall. It was definitely a good treat after heavy meal.

2) Tri-Colour Mousse in the Glass. It was made with 3 layers of mousse, vanilla  strawberry and chocolate. The texture of the mousse was so velvety and light-bodied. Its pleasantly sweet taste was certainly a plus point in making the glass a very popular dessert choice. read more

Holiday with Fun & Food in Club Med, Bintan Ria (Island)

“The dainty appetizers and light bites @ Club Med, Binta Ria”

What else? It was all about the food we had during our 5-day Bintan Island trip! :) Just to share with you some of these unique and luscious appetizers…

1) Chicken fillet in sliced cucumber roll, and the plating, complete with pineapple cubes as well as some sort of pineapple juice reduction as its sauce. Texture of chicken was juicy and the cucumber yielded a refreshing crunch to it. The pineapple cubes also complement well with the chicken cucumber rolls. Overall taste was not over powering, but enough to fill your palate pleasantly. I thought the dish looked easy to assemble it at home, I should just try to replicate my version of it one day. :) read more

Sweet Potatoes From The Sweet Potato Place

“Healthy Sweet Potato”

$, about $3 – $3.50 per regular-size potato
I tried their sweet potatoes, finally!

Yes, the sweet potatoes were sold by weight. I couldn’t remember how much per gram, but one regular-sized (length less than 5” while diameter less than 2”) sweet potato cost me $3.20.

I bought one piece each of the yellow and purple fleshes.

It tasted so good while eating it hot, but not so when it was cooled. I found the texture too-soft which became a little paste-like consistency in the palate when cooled. read more

Tropical Fruits Durian Block Party

“Block Party for the Singapore Residents”

No cooking tonight. I was helping out the MP’s Block Visit this evening, followed by a Resident Block Party, with food and fruits. During the block visit by MP, I acted as the writer, to jot down feedback and requests raised by the residents addressing to certain government department, e.g. HDB, Town Council, LTA, and etc.

MP, a Member of Parliament, is a representative elected by the people voters of an electoral district to the parliament. In Singapore, MP usually conducts Meet-the-People session once a week and/ or a house-to-house visit will be scheduled within his/ her constituency every now and then. The RC, Resident Committee, of its estate will also organise block parties/ activities for the residents. read more

Taiwan Deep Fried Sweet Potato Balls

“My favorite snack, the fried sweet potato balls on skewer. “

$, $2 for 4 balls

I remembered that deep fried sweet potato ball stalls were easily found on the street side, when I was young. However, these local snacks were tapering out in this urban city.

There was a stall, The Sweet Potato Place, newly opened at Level 1 in Thomson Plaza, selling Taiwan sweet potatoes and some concoctions.  When I first visited the stall, these sweet potato balls did not really catch my eyes. What had enticed me was the deep-fried sweet potato spring roll ($2 for 3). This light bite looked really appealing to me for the fact that it was filled with sweet potato. read more
